Synchrotron-radiation X-ray spectroscopy as a tool for electronic structure analysis of advanced materials

报告摘要

Recent R&D progress on new functional materials and nano-engineered systems has attracted intensive research efforts for the design and fabrication of electronic, photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices and sensors based on those frontier materials. Since the electronic/orbital structure of a material fingerprints its intrinsic physicochemical properties and surface/interface reaction at a hetero-junction, comprehensive investigation of a material’s electronic structure is critical in developing high-performance functional devices and sensors.

Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering Spectroscopy (RIXS) in combination with soft X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy (XANES) using synchrotron radiation represents a unique tool to probe element-specific, site-specific unoccupied molecular orbital states of an organic material (or density of conduction states of an inorganic material) while occupied molecular orbital states (or density of valence states) by XANES. The Advanced Materials and Devices Research (AMDR) Group of the University of Saskatchewan focuses on the use of XANES/RIXS for spectroscopic characterization of advanced functional materials and devices. In this lecture, I will introduce XANES/RIXS beamlines at Canadian Light Source (CLS) in Saskatoon and Advanced Light Source (ALS) in Berkeley and talk about how these techniques have been used to investigate the material’s electronic structure as well as recent spectroscopic studies conducted by the AMDR lab.

Gap Soo Chang, 加拿大萨斯喀彻温大学物理与工程物理系教授。于1992年至1998年期间在韩国延世大学先后获得物理系学士学位,表面物理硕士学位和凝聚态物理博士学位;1998年至2001年,在韩国首尔原子级表面科学研究中心(ASSRC)进行博士后研究并担任研究教授职位;2001年至2003年,在美国田纳西大学进行博士后研究;2003年至2015年,在加拿大萨斯喀彻温大学担任助理教授职位;201521日至2016331日,任日本大阪大学特聘教授;201571日至今,在加拿大萨斯喀彻温大学担任教授职位,主要从事同步辐射X射线光谱、共振弹性和非弹性X射线散射光谱、高性能有机光伏器件、自旋电子学和石墨烯电子学等方面的研究。以第一或通讯作者在Physical Review LettersACS NanoAdvanced Functional MaterialsCarbon等国际权威杂志发表SCI论文90余篇;1996年,获得由韩国真空学会授予的青年真空科学家奖;20067月,获得由韩国-加拿大科学家和工程师协会授予的AKCSE最佳会员奖;201310月,获得加拿大萨斯喀彻温大学授予的教科文组织协作教学创新实践奖;20157月,荣获韩国科学技术协会联合会(KOFST)年度科学家奖。
