报告内容提示:

The advances in spintronics development demand on an element-specific and time-resolved magnetic measurement. Both have been realized by applying soft x-rays at synchrotron sources. In this talk, I will choose two examples to illustrate such applications. In the first topic, I will talk our ongoing experiment on time-resolved X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) to directly detect the spin-current in a Ferromagnetic/Nonmagnetic/Ferromagnetic (FM/NM/FM) sandwich in which the Ferromagnetic Resonance (FMR) of one FM layer pumps spin-current into the NM layer and consequently generate the 2ndFM spin procession. In the 2ndtopic, I will discuss the application of Photoemission Electron Spectroscopy (PEEM) for the study of artificial magnetic Skyrmions.

报告人简介:

ZiQiang Qiu received his BS in 1984 from the physics department of Peking University. He went to the graduate school of the physics department of the Johns Hopkins University via the China-United States Physics Examination and Application (CUSPEA) program, and obtained his PhD in 1991. After doing postdoc research at the Materials Science Division of the Argonne National Laboratory, he joined the physics department of the University of California at Berkeley in 1993. He is also a staff scientist at the Materials Science Division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). His research interest is focused on the experimental study of magnetic nanostructures. Qiu has been elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society (2010) and received the Outstanding Young Researcher Award (Macronix Prize) of the Overseas Chinese Physics Association (OCPA) (1997).
